ABOUT US

Fairlight Books is an independent publishing house, founded in 2017. Our aim is to publish and promote the best of contemporary storytelling. Our authors have been listed for major prizes including the Women’s Prize for Fiction, the Walter Scott Prize for Historical Fiction, Scotland’s National Book Awards, the Diverse Book Awards, the McKitterick Prize and the BBC National Short Story Award.

Fairlight is home to a carefully curated range of fiction, from inventive literary novels to page-turning book club reads. Our fiction list includes the Fairlight Moderns, a collection of pocket-sized short novels with a strong sense of place. We also publish a small selection of non-fiction, including the bestselling Bookshop Tours of Britain, a testament to our love of brick-and-mortar bookshops.

By publishing just a small number of books each year, we believe we can give each book and its author the care and attention they deserve – from hands-on editing to stunning cover design and long-lasting promotional campaigns. We are also committed to championing diverse writers and ensuring all voices are heard.

In addition to our book publishing programme, we host free-to-read short stories on our website, showcasing the work of talented up-and-coming and established writers.
